Description:

Tears stream down her face as she feels the cold blade press against her neck. The sweet scent of her daughter’s favorite strawberry pancakes all around, her last thought is for her beautiful girl. Please, please let Lisa have escaped.

When Detective Casey White is called early one morning to a beachside vacation campsite in the Outer Banks, she finds the bodies of Carl and Peggy Pearson side-by-side, their throats cut, and their thirteen-year-old daughter Lisa nowhere to be found. Haunted by memories of her own missing girl, Casey fears this could soon become a triple murder: because without the medication found in the bathroom cabinet, Lisa has just days to live.

As her team struggle to untangle the meaning of the cryptic symbol carved into the victims’ skin, Casey searches the area for signs of Lisa: and is rewarded when she finds her blistered and barefoot, staggering along the highway. The girl barely has breath left to whisper ‘he invited me’ before blacking out.

Days later, another couple is found murdered on a vacation yacht. A different symbol is etched on their bodies, and their teenage daughter is also missing. Casey’s only clue is an unsettling ‘invitation’ found on the girl’s phone, to a secluded building out in the cornfields.

Desperate to uncover who is luring these innocent families to their deaths, and certain forensics have missed something vital, Casey matches up the crime scene photos herself. The symbols combine to form an upcoming date. The killer is taunting them with the timing of the next murder.

Racing to follow the invitation in time, when Casey arrives she is shocked to glimpse not the missing girls from this case, but her own missing daughter…

An absolutely addictive mystery thriller that will have you holding your breath until the shocking final twist. Perfect for fans of Kendra Elliot, Robert Dugoni and Melinda Leigh.

⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

I really enjoyed Detective Casey White along with all the characters in the book. Most thrillers these days you can predict how the story will go at about 20% completion. I was excited that B.R. Spangler broke the mode with this book. There were a lot of twist and turns and I felt as if I was in the conference room with Casey and her team. Trying to piece it all together. The book grabs the readers attention right away and you just have to continue. Once all the pieces to the story came together your suspension laid to rest. The book has great detail and will lead your brain down the Detective path. I did not read the first book in this series but look forward to learning more about Casey and continue reading this series as it has grabbed my attention and I am ready for more. #dowtimereading

🏍 ABOUT 🏍

Maxx Reynolds needs help.

His shop, house, and life are all in a state of disarray.

In desperation, he turns to the internet to hire a new employee, thinking it will make his life easier.

What he expects is a fellow named Charly.

What he gets is a quirky, sassy, red-head name Charlynn who runs circles around him.

And she’s all woman.

He can’t stand her.

He can’t keep his hands off her either.
****

Brand new romantic comedy from NYT Bestselling author Melanie Moreland. This small-town is about to see fireworks when feisty Charly starts to organize more than Maxx’s life.

Excerpt

“You’re a pain in the ass, anyone ever tell you that?”

“You’re a controlling jerk who refuses to admit he needs help.”

We were so close, I could feel her warm breath on my face. See the flecks of gray in the green of her eyes. I glared at her.

“You’re trying my patience, Red.”

“You’re pissing me off,” she retorted, jabbing at my chest with her pointy finger.

I grabbed her hand, and we both stared at it. Felt the heat bubbling in the air around us. Our gazes locked, and suddenly, my mouth was on hers. Demanding. Hard. Determined.

She yanked back, her breathing hard. “You’re an asshole.”

“I know.”

Then she flung her arms around my neck and kissed me back. She pulled me hard, yanking on my hair. I wrapped my arm around her, settling my hand on that spectacular ass, and dragging her close. Our tongues battled for dominance, neither of us giving an inch.

It was only the sound of a car door slamming out front that had us pulling apart. We faced each other, her lips swollen from our passion, her rapid breathing matching mine. My cock was hard and erect, pulsating with need.

She swallowed. “I’ll order that wipe-off board.”

I nodded. “Yeah, you do that.”

She turned and fled.

For the Love of BOOKS!

Welp…. HELLO Friends. I have been MIA in the book world and Authors are starting to take notice. I have a stock pile of advance reader copies (ARC) with fast approaching deadlines and I am a new member of a Facebook group where Random Acts of Kindness (RAOK) comes in the form of BOOKS!! I think at this point my husband does not believe the amount of books I get…. I have been in the car more than I have been in the 4 walls of a permanent structure. Also, unfortunately, a family member’s mental health came in full swing and needed help. I hope to get you book reviews soon. I am sure the authors would love it as well. At this moment in life I am stuck in a pause and take one day at a time. Someone recently, said ” I know you have a plan what is it?” WELL… I do not. my schedule is all over the place and live is moving faster than I can grip. SO here I am hoping you all stick it out with me until I can come up with a plan.

Lastly, If you or a family member suffer from mental health issues please seek help. Find an outlet, just try and see the bigger picture because the unbreakable person is always breakable. Help each other and be the bad guy and seek the help that person needs. Sometimes PRIDE gets in the way and when someone truly needs help you have to be the person to step up and be their fall out person. I guess this is life and we are all in it together…

For now, please go read a book… I am searching to turn my brain off and read day in and day out.. it’s my outlet and perhaps it can be yours as well.

Time Flies

Whew! It has been a busy month and it is only going to get busier. Thankfully, I had a teenager visit for a few days and she appreciated my book room and my love to chit chat about books and things.

My Instagram is still thriving, but as you can tell my blog and Facebook page still need help. Life is crazy therefore, I am set to schedule more book blog time! At one point I lost track of my assigned book reviews but I am tackling them!

I wanted to stop by and just thank you for the continued support. The book community has really been a great way to fulfill self worth and an outlet when needed. I challenge everyone to just take a time out and pick up a good book.

Until next time

Feature Friday

Alright, I know the title is not an “original” BUT I thought it was a perfect fit for this blog post. Lets chat about books I have read prior to the launch of @dowtimereading. Well, really what I mean is… before I was unemployed and now read like a wild woman.

Ok, let’s get to it.

I have one author in mind when writing this blog and her name is Sibella Giorello. I only discovered her through my mother-in-law and boy am I glad I did. Sibella is actually a friend of my husband’s family and I just recently met her when we had a layover in Washington State.

About the Author:

“Sibella Giorello writes the award-winning and bestselling mystery series starring forensic geologist Raleigh Harmon. The first book in the series, “The Stones Cry Out,” won a Christy Award for excellence. Since then, many more Raleigh Harmon mysteries have followed, including a bestselling YA series in which the 15-year-old budding geologist uses mineralogy to solve crimes in her hometown of Richmond, Virginia. A former newspaper reporter, Sibella’s journalism was twice nominated for the Pulitzer Prize”

-Referenced from Goodreads.

The Raleigh Harmon series is more than I expected. It opens a world of reading for us crime investigating readers that are still suckers for a little love. When I was reading the series I could just picture the next crime show to feature Raleigh and her next case. Raleigh, is complicated in her own ways. Yet, you just truly want to be her best friend. You will fall in love with all the characters as they all develop at their own pace throughout the series. They all have their own struggles and the best part of all is this is not a romance novel therefore the reader is left wondering if a happy ending will actually happen. The characters are faced with difficult decisions and pushed to the limit and if we are being honest I was pacing around like a lunatic while reading because some parts just had me right out sweating. I hope to see more of Raleigh and I am going to dig into her other series so hang tight and follow me and Sibella at https://sibellawrites.com/

Here are a few of my reviews :

Thanks for following along and reading my on going thoughts.

Darling, Rose Gold

By: Stephanie Wrobel

Rating: 3 out of 5.

When you’re a kid, there are things you don’t question. This is your mom. This is your dad. Your name is Vinny. This is your birthday. When you turned fifteen, did you ever ask your parents if your birthday was really your birthday?”

Darling, Rose Gold Pg.41

For the first eighteen years of her life, Rose Gold Watts believed she was seriously ill. She was allergic to everything, used a wheelchair and practically lived at the hospital. Neighbors did all they could, holding fundraisers but no matter how many doctors, tests, or surgeries, no one could figure out what was wrong with Rose Gold.

Turns out her mom, Patty Watts, was just a really good liar.

After serving five years in prison, Patty begs her daughter to take her in. The entire community is shocked when Rose Gold says yes. And Rose Gold is no longer her weak little darling…

And she’s waited such a long time for her mother to come home.

Alright Followers lets dive into this book.

Cover: I mean come on look at this cover. It’s part of the reason I bought a hard copy of this book. You can just envision the story just by the ripped outdated wall paper and Rose Gold’s name pushing the wallpaper limits. I enjoyed the design and think it was a great illustration of the book itself.

Price/Availability: I purchased this book off Amazon in a hard copy version $18.20 you can snag it in paperback for $13.59 along with the kindle version for the lowest price of $9.99 Audio book will cost you $19.60 OR 1 Audible credit. I did look on B&N along with thrift book shops and Amazon seemed to be the cheapest and fastest way to get the book.

Rating Reasoning: As stated above in my Instagram post and Goodreads review this book really killed my reading mojo. I was headed in a downward reading slump. The one thing I dislike about a book is being able to predict the ending. I need a book to not only consume my thoughts but to throw my world off center. At about page 144 I could tell how the story would end up. I do have to say even though I knew one character was crazier than the other I enjoyed the recap at the end where the story was brought full circle. This book kept my attention hence the third star. I was intrigued that this mirrored an actual child abuse case. I am a True Crime reader at heart therefore, I enjoyed the basis of this story. I wish the ending was more unpredictable and heart throbbing but not all books can capture every audience.

As always, if you check this book out or have read it let me know your thoughts.

My Brother’s Billionaire Best Friend

by Max Monroe

Mabel “Maybe” Willis died a virgin at the very young age of twenty-four. She leaves behind her parents, Betty and Bruce, her brother, Evan, a laptop filled with one too many Jason Momoa memes, and a Kindle library with more books than one human being could ever finish in a lifetime.
Cause of death: a text message.

Okay. So, I didn’t die.
But I may as well have.

One minute, I’m a woman trying to find her way in the world, and the next, I’m the sender of six of the most embarrassing text messages that have ever been sent in the history of time—or the cell phone. Whatever.

We’re talking code red, send a flipping mayday, the apocalypse is coming kind of texts.

And I didn’t just send them to some random person I’ll never see again.
No. That would be too easy.

I sent them to Milo Ives.

The man who played a starring role in all of my teenage fantasies—and my brother’s lifelong best friend.
And, boy oh boy, has he grown up.
He’s hard-bodied, blue-eyed, jawline-of-stone handsome, crazy successful, and has more money in his bank account than my brain can fathom.

Deflower me, please? I said.

Yeah. Send help.”

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I do not even know where to begin! I got My Brother’s Billionaire Best Friend in last months @RomanceRevealbookBox boy am I happy I picked it up to start down this rabbit hole. I could not put this book down. I very rarely laugh out loud uncontrollably when read but clearly this book has set the bar high. At one point I had tears running down my face from laughing so hard. The humor in this book is right up my alley. This book is packed with comedy, love, friendship and family bonds. As soon as you open the cover of the book you’ll let out a good laugh and continue on Milo and Maybe’s journey. Rest assured “Maybe” is just her nickname.
Goodreads Review

Lets, break this book down if you are still with me.

Cover: We all know NOT to judge a book (or reader) by the cover. I do not know about you BUT I flipped this bad boy over when the neighbors came over. Most romance book covers are the same the usual shirtless hunk of a human and a hot girl. The book stood out to me because of how vibrant white it is. Its a very smooth cover (which when you’re reading all day makes a difference) and it’s just BOLD. I happen to have a signed copy, therefore this book hold a little more value to me personally.

Price/Availability : As posted above I received this book along with another and a few goodies (pens, bookmarks, candle and candy) from a monthly subscription box @revealbookbox is not just for romance readers you can also select the kids option. The Romance book option has 3 choices and you can pick by price point or by package options. I picked option 2 which comes with 2 signed paperbacks and extra goodies. It is $24.95 and is billed on the 15th of each month. If you are not a fan of book boxes you can purchase this book on Amazon for $14.99. I will give you both link options to check out.

Amazon Kindle

Rating Reasoning: So, as mentioned in my Goodreads review from the moment I opened this book starting with the author’s note to the reader and the dedication I was laughing! How many books have you read that actually make you laugh out loud? OK, how about how many people have made you “LOL” FOR REAL? Catch my drift? NONE. The intro is short and to the point it sets the scene so the reader is not playing “catch up” through the chapters. It allows the reader to jump right into the story.

As the pages turn we get into the timeline of how Milo comes back into Maybe’s life. You’re introduced to Maybe’s parents who are a hoot themselves and Maybe’s brother. NOW- Maybe’s father gets a Groupon so she can get her wisdom teeth remove, we all know at this point all those crazy videos we have seen on YouTube… Now you know it’s all down hill from here. I literally, could not stop laughing, I am pretty sure this book is the definition of a relatable character and story. There are for sure ups, downs, internal struggle, relationships on the line and all that good stuff everyone loves. I do not rate this book very high on the sexual content. I am saying it has it moments but I don’t see any blushing moments. I think the scenes are tastefully written and gives someone a great start into the comedy side of romance novels.

The book is 310 pages even with an “unauthorized” note at the end. I read it in one day- that right there says a lot.

Quotes I NEED to share:

“No cellphones, no headphones, no tablets, no food, no drinks, no loitering, no yelling, no nudity-“

” I mean, AT&T has always given me pretty great service, but I doubt their cellular networks are good enough that I am able to browse Instagram in the afterlife.”

“I am wearing my days of the week underwear, and they are, in fact, sporting the wrong day.”

If you have read this book or check it out let me know your thoughts. Thanks for sticking around and chatting books with me. My husband will be thrilled he’s out of the gig.

XO-Aaren

Crack That Spine…

Let’s talk books and things… seriously, my husband is not interested in my one sided conversations on my latest book. TRUST me on that. Alright, alright lets get to it.

My favorite part of reading is always taking the time to check out the dedication the author wrote. It’s one of the first things I look at and I let it sink in… UNLESS it’s dedicated to just John or Frank then there’s nothing much for me to ponder about. I always thought the dedication gives you a little window into the development of the book and a touch of the authors inner person. QUICK!!! run, jump, swim or walk like a penguin to the closest book, crack that spine open and check out who the author send a little message to. It’s like a secret code and you have to wonder is the author sending a message to their long lost love? OK,OK I am a sucker for romance.

Now, if you were to publish something, anything who or what would you dedicate your work to? I know you are just dying to see what dedication I would publish and honestly, it would be something like this:

I Dedicate this to:

The worst boss I have ever had. THANK YOU for showing me I am capable of rising above violence and still hold a smile Queen Elizabeth would be proud.
Also, to my younger self- Don’t leave egg rolls and fried chicken for cigarettes and motorcycles it will haunt you LITERALLY FOREVER

#Liveonfrank

So, there you have it my awesome dedication that will all leave you wondering what in the frosted flakes pudding I am talking about. Lets move on to my most recent dedication I stumbled on that made me ramble on and on :

Lastly, If you made it through to the end share your favorite dedication or make up your own and leave a comment. Now, go smell a book- we all need to 😉 and KEEP FIGHTING!

XO Aaren
#dowtimereading

Well, Hello there

Today I woke up and decided to take my @dowtimereading a little further. I am also putting off homework, housework and all the other things on my “list”. Ok, lets ramble… this first post will be less books and more me. I know you are all dying to just really dig into my very exciting life. well….. strap yourself down because it’s about to get wild.

I am Aaren (NO, not a boy) very much a female.. my husband has verified. TRUST ME! Also, the crazy monster we produced that currently napping can attest to that as well.

I am originally from Upstate NY. No, not the city yes, I love me some NYC but about 3 hours north of the hustle. Where I am from is about 30 mins north of the capital district. A place called Schenectady. I know, I know I will help you pronounce it SKIN- NECK-TITTY. There’s not much to say about good ol’ Schenectady. My family still lives there and so does every ex-boyfriend, ex-husband, their girlfriends and just overall salty people. #DRAMA

Yes, you read that right ex-husband. I use to get very quiet and just pretend that part of my life didn’t happen. Unfortunately, it did- I lived to tell the story and now “I’m not afraid anymore” (quick Home Alone reference) but real life I am not ashamed that I decided I was better than the life I THOUGHT I was supposed to live. Take that and think about it, let it settle.

Most of my life I did not live for what I WANTED or NEEDED I lived a life that was good on paper, to others and less hmm… how should we say out of the box. I lived in the cookie cutter life that is drilled into our heads. Good friends, good relationship, marriage, house and kids but really I ended up with it all in flames and no one to live for except picking up my own pieces and trying to figure out where my life would go… That’s tough especially when you’re 25.

Now, I am almost 30, remarried have a house in Northern Maine, lived in other places besides what I thought was “home” and I rebuilt my life one step at a time. Am I proud of the things I did while figuring that out. NOPE… Do I wish I could go back to 2009? YEP. but I can’t so you live and learn and keep on going.

For everyone out there living a life they are not that into please change that before it’s too late. Mistakes happen, people evolve and that’s OK. It is OK to say NO, goodbye, yes or any other response you prefer.

Run around naked- who cares we are all locked in our houses still .

XO- Aaren
